Website Tracking and Consent: A Practical Checklist
A compact checklist for reviewing public tracking, notices, and consent signals before a campaign or site release.
Why a checklist helps
Tracking changes often arrive through small decisions: a new analytics tag, a chat widget, an embedded video, or a campaign page. A short pre-launch checklist gives small teams a repeatable way to notice the public signals those tools create.
Pre-launch checklist
- Open the page in a fresh browser session and observe the first-visit experience.
- List visible forms, embedded tools, analytics tags, pixels, and third-party widgets.
- Check that the banner or notice is easy to find and matches the experience it describes.
- Review whether public links to the privacy policy and related notices are present and functional.
- Compare campaign or checkout pages with your main site so important disclosures are not isolated to one area.
- Record what changed and who should review any open questions.
Test the edges
Do not limit the review to the homepage. Check resource pages, lead forms, customer portals, product demos, booking flows, and localized pages. These are often where third-party tools enter quietly and where a visitor’s expectations can differ from your documentation.
Use findings to choose the next action
A first-pass checklist is for prioritization. It can identify public gaps for your operator, privacy owner, vendor manager, or counsel to investigate. It does not replace a legal assessment of your obligations.
